السوناتا 55 |
Not marble, nor the gilded monuments |
لا الرخام ولا أنصاب الأمراء المُذهَّبة |
shall outlive this powerful rhyme; |
ستصمد أكثر من هذا الشعر البليغ؛ |
But you shall shine more bright in these contents |
بل إنك ستشعّ في هذه الأبيات ألقًا |
Than unswept stone, besmeared with sluttish time. |
أكثر من شاهدة الحجر غير ممحية، لوثّها الزمان القذر. |
When wasteful war shall statues overturn, |
عندما تُسقط التماثيلَ حرب مُدمِّرة |
And broils root out the work of masonry, |
وتقتلع أعمالَ البناء من أساساتها، |
Nor Mars his sword nor war’s quick fire shall burn |
لا مارس بسيفه ولا نيران حرب ضروس |
The living record of your memory. |
ستحرق سجل ذكراك الحي. |
‘Gainst death and all oblivious enmity shall you pace forth; |
ستتجاوز بسرعة الموت وجميع الأعداء المغفَّلين |
your praise shall still find room, |
وسيبقى لتمجيدك مكان |
Even in the eyes of all posterity |
حتى في نظر الأجيال القادمة |
That wear this world out to the ending doom. |
الذين سيستهلكون هذا العالم حتّى القدر المحتوم. |
So, till the judgment that yourself arise, You live in this, and dwell in lovers’ eyes |
لذا، ستحيا في هذا الشعر وتقيم في أعين العشاق حتّى انبعاثك يومَ القيامة. |
